GRISLY DISCOVERY

Purple Auras Show Strong Intuition and Psychic Abilities

It feels like time and space are frozen at this moment. I can sense life going on around me, and I hear as officers nearby talk to one another amongst crime scene tape and strobing red and blue lights. But the hairs standing up on the back of my neck confirm that something is very wrong here.

Between Priscilla sketching out the worst-case scenario of Seattle being flooded and Mika’s acceptance of that idea, I’m pretty much mentally overloaded. Add in that it seems like Mika has some sort of link to other Zods, which makes me feel like I’m in an episode of the Twilight Zone.

I clear my throat and ask Cal, “Have the investigators thought of this scenario at all?”

The others turn toward Cal.

He purses his lips and shakes his head. “No, I don’t think even the FBI has thought of this. Supposedly, their computers have all the same information that Priscilla has read. But as far as I know, they don’t have a clue what these people could be doing with water Zods. But,” he looks over at Priscilla, “there have been times when the FBI has not totally shared their knowledge with us—until much later.” He shrugs.

She nods in agreement.

“So, if we brought this idea to them they would just say we’re a bunch of teens and don’t know what we’re doing?” I ask, remembering the governor’s words.

Cal glances over at the officers looking busy. “Probably. Unless we have some proof. If we get proof that these people intend to flood Seattle, then they might help us.”

I let out a laugh. “We don’t even know if we’re on the right track, let alone have proof. And there must be at least a million places to hide people in this city, so we really could use their help.”

“Yes, it’s a huge area and they could be holding these teens anywhere.” Cal shoves his notebook back in his pocket. “One thing I learned in the Navy was that if you can’t solve a problem one way, you need to pivot and go mentally or physically in another direction. Sometimes, just changing the way you look at the problem will help you find your solution.”

“Like concentrating on the how instead of the why?” asks Priscilla.

Cal nods, smiling.

“Well, we now know they’re using water Zods, so we can assume for now that they must be close to the waters around Seattle,” offers Mika.

“Do you think you could locate them before they flood Seattle?” I ask.

Mika shakes his head. His red hair has grown longer since we were in the warehouse and it curls around his face, accentuating his freckles. “If I can, I don’t know how. Today is the first time that I’ve ever been able to feel other Zods this way.”

“Is there a way to amplify your powers?” asks Priscilla.

Joel laughs. “You mean like a power booster on a video game?”

Priscilla squints over at Joel. “Yes, kind of like that. With ENS’ we have therapies and procedures that enhance whatever gift we have.
